Pilates takes a holistic approach to wellness, emphasizing head, neck, trunk and spinal alignment in order to bring a state of harmony to the body. While working to correct imbalances and strengthen chronic weaknesses, the exercises are easily modifiable to fit all levels, including those suffering from neurological impairments, chronic pain, arthritis, osteoporosis, and movement dysfunction. Pilates helps to develop the body awareness and strength we need to find well-being in our everyday lives.
Pilates is a mind and body fitness regime combining flexibility, strength and coordination to the whole body. Using specialized equipment, there are more than 500 resistance exercises beneficial for rehabilitation, injury prevention, postural alignment and overall fitness. While focusing on core stability and efficiency of movement, the programs are created to meet the needs and abilities of each individual by encouraging body awareness.
Gyrotonic® from the word “gyro” (meaning ring, spiral or circle) and “tonic” (to tone or invigorate), is a movement system devised to increase range of motion, coordination, and strength by performing circular and rotational movements. Based on the principles of swimming, ballet, yoga and chi kung it works the body as an integrated whole, exercising the musculature of the body while mobilizing and articulating the joints. The movement patterns are natural, fluid and organic. Many high level athletes such as golfers and dancers use this as their primary source of physical training.
The Gyrotonic® equipment is designed to become an extension of the body, allowing freedom of movement with no restriction to speed or versatility. The movement is non-linear and non-isolated, mimicking the healthy resistance of water. Gyrotonic® exercises are synchronized with corresponding breath and rhythm. The exercises work towards creating a polarity of forces using the latest European Physiotherapy concept of “Stabilization Through Contrast”.
There are many benefits to Gyrotonic® as well. It is good for both injury prevention and rehabilitation. Its often cardiovascular exercises aid in organ function, increased blood circulation, strengthening of the nervous system and the promotion of a healthy spine and joints. It also helps to rid the body of toxins and opens the meridian system to create harmony and balance in the flow of energy.
Qi Gong is an internal meditative longevity practice with its roots in Chinese medicine, martial arts and Taoist philosophy. Using slow graceful movements and controlled breathing techniques, Qi Gong opens the energy centers of the body by cultivating the circulation of Chi or Life Energy, to enhance overall health.
Drawing from the Earth and Cosmic energies, Qi Gong helps to purge the body of negative emotions while enhancing or tonifying with positive ones, thus allowing for better energy flow within the Microcosmic Orbit. When the body is cleared of negative energy, universal Chi flows freely, nourishing both the body and the soul, allowing access to higher states of awareness and awakening to one’s “true nature”.
The Cosmic Inner Smile is a powerful internal healing and relaxation meditation, which dissolves physical and mental tensions that can cause energy blockages and unhealthy Chi in the body. It enhances the energy of the organs and glands, and the life force in general. It brings awareness to the body and inner being, through communication with organs, glands, spine and other specific parts of the body, as well as the soul. Taoists discovered that consciousness is rooted not only in the brain, but also in the vital organs and in each of the cells. Smiling to the organs and thanking them for the work they do reawakens the intelligence of the body. Practicing the Cosmic Inner Smile aids in the releasing of toxins and restoring the energy flow and in the capacity of the body to heal itself.
Shiatsu is a Japanese “hands on” healing art based on traditional oriental healing principles and modern anatomy and physiology theory. Literally translated as “finger pressure”, Shiatsu consists of simple manipulations and pressure applied to acupuncture meridians and points. Hence, it has been called “acupuncture without needles”.
Shiatsu aims to regulate the energy known as “ki” or “chi”, which flows through these meridians, nourishing the organs, muscles, glands, nerves and blood. An imbalance in this energy network can lead to fatigue, pain and illness. Shiatsu treatments help to relieve stress and pain, improve muscle and joint function, strengthen the body, and improve health and well being.
There is no need to have a specific problem to enjoy the many benefits of Shiatsu Therapy.
